Where are the 2 Trillion Naira Assets EFCC Has Siezed So Far??

The House of Representatives yesterday mandated its Committee on Drugs, Narcotics and Financial Crimes to investigate the status of all seized and sold assets by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission since its inception, valued at over N2 trillion.
The House took this decision after adopting a motion sponsored by Hon. Toby Okechukwu and 15 of his colleagues.
According to the sponsors of the motion, the EFCC had in the past confiscated over 200 mansions through 46 forfeiture court orders without any concise account of the state of the assets.
Presenting the motion, Okechukwu argued that the EFCC had, within its mandate, at many times confiscated, through court orders, assets from accused and convicted persons, including prominent Nigerians and corporate organisations.
He noted that the Assets Forfeiture Unit of the anti-graft agency was set up in 2008 with the mandate of ensuring that all assets forfeited to the federal government through the EFCC were identified and verifiable.
According to him, these forfeited assets, estimated at over N2 trillion, comprised landed properties and business concerns, bank accounts, shares in blue chip companies, exotic vehicles, fuel stations, hotels, warehouses, shopping malls, schools, bakeries, housing estates and radio stations in and outside Nigeria.
The lawmaker lamented that there have been reports of vandalism, abandonment and wastage of some of these seized assets.
He expressed dismay that there was lack of clarity as to the utilisation of these assets while litigations on the substantive corruption cases were ongoing in the courts.
He also said that there has been a reported breach of the seal of the EFCC and attempts at unlawful and forceful repossession by those whose properties have been confiscated.
Okechukwu told his colleagues that the House has a challenge to take a look at the reported rot of over 400 cars seized from some prominent Nigerians.
According to him, the right thing that should have been done was for these assets to be put under the management of professional managers who could have used them to generate revenue for the country.
Although the House commended the EFCC for its diligence in the process of obtaining forfeiture order through the courts, the lawmakers resolved that there was need for proper management of these assets, hence the investigation.

How my daughter was killed by her boyfriend – Bereaved father

This is certainly not the best of times for the Bournes’ family which is currently mourning following the alleged killing of Olayinde Bournes’, by her boyfriend, last Thursday, in Aguda Ogba area of Lagos.
The deceased, a 22-year-old par time student of the Lagos State Polytechnic, was allegedly beaten to death by her boyfriend over an unknown reason.
Crime Guard gathered that the 200 level Business Administration student had gone to bid her boyfriend, Abuchi Cyril, 24, goodbye , as the latter was reportedly planning to travel to Malasia next day (Friday), unknown to her that would be her final sojourn on earth.
Although it could not be ascertained what transpired between the love birds behind closed doors but it was gathered that rather than being entertained in his parents’ apartment located on number 25 Shorimade Street, Aguda Ogba, Abuchi took Olayinde to a neighbours apartment, who at that time was away.
But apprehension, set in, after several calls on Olayinde’s phone by her father, met dead silence. Just as he reportedly stepped outside to see if his daughter was anywhere around, he met some persons in group discussing what was later discovered to be her daughter’s demise.
During a visit to the late Olayinde’s family’s house, her devastated father who offered to speak with Crime Guard said, “ I was at home around 11am that fateful day while my late daughter was outside the house with her mother, all dressed up. I later walked up to them and asked when she would be going to work. And she said she would first go to the bank to submit her account opening form which would enable her receive her monthly salary because she was just employed by Cadbury Plc. Satisfied with the answer, I went back inside to rest because I haven’t been feeling very well for some time.
“ I later learnt that she told her mother she would first go and see her boyfriend Abuchi, who called her earlier to come and see his travelling documents, as he was supposed to travel next day to Malaysia. That was the last we saw of her.
“At about 12:25pm, I dialled her number. It rang but there was no response. I called again around 12:30pm, it rang and still no response. Later, the phone was switched off. I and my wife became worried at that point because we could not say what was wrong with her.
At about 4pm, I decided to stroll round. But when I got outside, I noticed a crowd which turned towards my direction but noone spoke to me. Confused, I went inside and told my wife about what I observed.
Later I sent her to go and purchase some ingredients to prepare super. When she came back, she also told me the crowd stared at her also. Just as we were contemplating on what to do, our fears was confirmed as a young man among the crowd rushed inside and yelled ‘ it has happened o! When we demanded what the matter was, he broke the news of my daughter’s demise. At that instant, my world was shattered. He also told us the corpse was just brought to a nearby hospital. I rushed to the hospital with the hope that I would see her alive. But no, I only saw her remains.
Tell me, should I start preparing towards having another child at this age?”, he asked , trying hard not to betray his emotion.
What went wrong?
Abuchi as gathered, was arrested by policemen attached to Area ‘G’ Ogba, command, from where he was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department SCID, Yaba. In his statement to the Police, he reportedly said while he was with Olayinde, she suddenly screamed ‘my head’, before she slumped.
But findings by the police as gathered, revealed that the mattress in the room where Olayinde’s dead body was found was socked with blood. The mattress was reportedly turned upside down before the arrival of policemen. But during a search of the apartment ,blood , suspected to be from Olayinde, was discovered under the bed and later traced to the mattress turned upside down.
Another puzzle that needs to be unravelled was the report that a nurse was reportedly invited by Abuchi while he was with Olayinde. A resident who pleaded anonymity told Crime Guard that :“ We suspect there could be more to all this than meet the eyes. First, the corpse was inside the room three hours before it was taken to the hospital. Why did it take him that long to rush her to the hospital? Abuchi even called in a nurse while he was inside with Olayinde. The nurse we learnt, carried out some treatment on Olayinde. What went wrong that made him invite the nurse? She was even the one that accompanied Abuchi to the hospital where she works, with Olayinde’s body. It was when Olayinde was pronounced dead that she bolted, pretending she was going to get a taxi”, the resident said.
The nurse with an undisclosed identity was reportedly arrested by the Police and later released, an action the bereaved family queried. The deceased’s phone as gathered, was also discovered to be missing.
Police sources hinted that some finger marks were discovered on the deceased neck and her camisole stained with blood. But sources could however not state exactly what led to the death of Olayinde, until the autopsy result will be out.
A Christian wake was held at the deceased apartment, located on 17, Muibi street Aguda Ogba, Thursday, while her remains was interred Friday at Atan cemetery, Yaba.

Ebuka is a complete package of looks, style, brains, and finesse. The dude can be anything he wishes to be. He is vast in politics, sound in entertainment, and a lawyer, a red-carpet delight, cerebral and sharp-witted.

(No Lies) What do you think?

The Oddest Couples In The World

Everybody knows this old one – don’t judge the book by its covers? Yes? OK. And, I think that’s just the responsible way to live and its one of the best lesson for the kids. But! Just because you can’t judge a book by the cover doesn’t mean you can’t laugh at the absurdity of the cover.  Some things are just too ridiculous to ignore – like, 7’1? basketball player routinely dating women who barely break the five-foot mark. Or even like a statuesque model with a soccer player who looks more like a gargoyle. Or even like a Playboy Playmate who formed an extremely unlikely match with a one-time NFL quarterback. Here are some of the  unlikeliest couples in sports.

1. Nikolai and Galina Valuev

Nikolai Valuev is a Russian boxer who is also known as Rock Man, The Russian Bear, Lurch or even Shrek (the mean one!). He’s a full 7’0? tall, 308 pounds and rocks size 18 shoes! His wife Galina is 5’2? and can’t be much over 100 pounds. Galina said she was won over by the Rock Man’s poetry that he wrote for her after a chance meeting at a friend’s birthday party in 1999.

2. Dirk Nowitzki and Jessica Olsson

Dirk Nowitzki of the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks was recently engaged to the relatively teeny Jessica Olsson. Nowitzki stands a full foot taller than Olsson, but they actually make quite an adorable couple.

3. Amare Stoudemire and Ciara

At 6’10?, New York Knicks power forward Amare Stoudemire stands about 13 inches taller than his girlfriend, R&B singer Ciara. Actually at 5’9?, Ciara is fairly tall for a girl but standing next to an NBA player is bound to make most of us look comically undersized. The timeline on their relationship is a bit hazy, but the pair have been dating since early 2011.

4. Tito Ortiz and Jenna Jameson

UFC fighter Tito Ortiz and Jenna Jameson have been together since 2006 on MySpace and the pair were married in 2008. They probably looked like less of an odd couple back when she was a little bit more luscious. Now that she’s decidedly more stick-like, they just look like skinny and the beast. However, to everyone’s surprise, these crazy kids seem to be making things work despite their very well-reported rough patches.

5. Mike Modano and Willa Ford

Goofy-looking Mike Modano is an American hockey player who is now the oldest active player in the NHL. He was drafted in 1988 and until last season played every single game of his career for the Stars—first in Minnesota and then in Dallas. Modano has been with singer/songwriter Willa Ford for nearly a decade and the two were married in a small ceremony in Athens, Texas in 2007.

6. Shaquille O’Neal and Nicole “Hoopz” Alexander

At 7’1? and 325 pounds (which is a modest estimate), it would be very difficult for Shaquille O’Neal to find an appropriately-sized partner. Obviously there aren’t too many 6’6? women walking around, but there are certainly women closing in on 6’0?, right? Well Shaq isn’t interested. He likes his women petite and 5’0?—his new girl, Hoopz Alexander, is no exception. Hoopz is two feet shorter than him and over 200 pounds lighter! Wow, I can’t even imagine the logistics of this relationship.

7. Chris Bosh and Adrienne Williams

The Miami Heat’s Chris Bosh stands an impressive 6’11?. That’s almost as tall as Shaq, but of course, Bosh is a bit trimmer. Bosh met Williams, who looks to be almost a two full feet shorter than him, in late 2009 and the pair married sometime in 2011. Most sources insist they were married way back in April, but Bosh has been strangely evasive about it.

8. Kevin Garnett and Brandi Padilla

Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett is one of the most imposing figures in the NBA. At 6’11? and over 260 pounds, he’s absolutely massive and his personality probably makes him look about a foot taller on the court. KG [color=redmarried his longtime girlfriend Brandi Padilla during a private California ceremony in 2004[/color]; he actually skipped the Olympics that year because of the wedding. It’s anybody’s guess how tall Padilla is, but she appears to be almost 18 inches shorter than her husband and it’s hard not to laugh at some of the pictures of the couple.

9. Peter Crouch and Abigail Clancy

Peter Crouch is an English soccer player who plays for the national team as well as Stoke City in the Premier League. Abigail Clancy is a stunning British lingerie and fashion model as well as a television personality. The two began dating in 2007 and Crouch, who probably couldn’t believe his luck, decided to put a ring on it in 2009. The two had their first child, Sophia Ruby, in March 2011. Crouch isn’t tragic to look at, but he’s obviously a bit of an average Joe. Unfortunately next to Clancy, he looks like a lot more like a substantially below-average Joe.

10. Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sarah Brandner

Bastian Schweinsteiger is a German soccer player who plays for the German national team as well as for Bayern Munich. He’s a celebrated player who has won a number of national and international awards over his career. Unsurprisingly he’s credited his gorgeous model girlfriend Sarah Brandner for a lot of his great performances over the last several years. The two have been dating since 2007 and currently live together in Munich. Schweinsteiger may not be a looker, but he’s gotta be brave! When he and Brandner first met at a social event in Munich, she was dating Wladimir Klitschko, the Ukrainian heavyweight boxer who later dated Hayden Panettiere.

11. Marko Jaric and Adriana Lima

Marko Jaric is a Serbian basketball player who was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2000 NBA draft. His career in the NBA was decidedly unremarkable, and his looks leave a little to be desired; yet he still managed to land one of the hottest women on the planet. He met Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima in 2007 and Jaric proposed a year later on June 12, 2008—Lima’s 27th birthday. They married in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in 2009 and welcomed their first child, Valentina Lima Jaric, almost nine months to the date later. Nobody is sure what is more stunning at this point: Lima’s show-stopping good looks or her marriage to this dude.

12. Plaxico and Tiffany Burress

It’s not just the difference in height that make New York Jets wide receiver Plaxico Burress and his Tiffany an odd couple. If you’ve ever seen the pair together, you know that this is definitely a case of opposites attracting. Plaxico is a professional athlete, who’s always been a man of relatively few words. Tiffany is a model, an attorney and she’s exceptionally well spoken. The pair seem to be making it work though!

WAHALA! Cameroonian Artist Set To Protest Against MTN Psquare Concert

Cameroonian artists  under the canopy of Syndicat Camerounais de musicien (SYCAMU) have aired out their grievances against the mobile network service provider MTN for paying  huge amounts of money to foreign artists to perform meanwhile Cameroonian artists wallow in abject pernury, often humbled to receive meagre sums of money for concerts.

They consider this a typical evidence of  capital flight which contradicts the 8th May 2012 communique  . SYCAMU president, Romeo Dika vented his dissatisfaction saying it is absolutely unfair for a mobile network company to pay 200 or 300 million CFA to foreign artists and can’t pay such sums to local artists. The union is therefore planning a public manifestation against MTN on May 18th , the date scheduled for the P SQUARE concert. Concert meetings are ongoing with the Minister of Arts and Culture, Ama Tutu Muna and the authority in charge of copyrights SOCAM. Remember it’s not been long the same union fired a bullet  on MTN for involvement in piracy.

Nigeria: Another Fuel Price Hike Coming – NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has raised the alarm over moves by some functionaries of Federal Government to create avoidable labour and political crises by seeking to break up the congress and impose a new regime of fuel price hikes. Labour alleged that the President’s men have concluded arrangement to register a new labour centre, which they hope would support anti-people policies, and cause distraction in the labour movement.

The NLC, in a statement signed by its Acting General secretary, Comrade Owei Lakemfa, has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to call affected members of his cabinet to order.

“ These hawks in government who see the NLC as being too powerful and capable of checkmating undemocratic and unpatriotic moves by the political class, have come to the conclusion that the best way out is to engineer internal ‘disagreements’ in the NLC, and hiding under this guise, to register a new labour centre which they hope will support anti-people policies and cause distractions in the labour movement. These government agents have even fixed July, 2012 as the registration date of their proposed new labour centre”, Comrade Lakemfa said.

The NLC therefore called on the President to call his men to order to avoid labour/political upheaval, as neither the government or their agents would be able to withstand the expected crises. According to him, it was the same agents who are also responsible for the anti-labour bill currently before the National Assembly.

He noted that the agents are myopic as they do not realise that the NLC is a major buffer against any unconstitutional or anti-democratic bid for power in the country.

“They do not recognize the fact that when the chips are down, it is the NLC, and not the political parties that are capable of mobilizing and getting tens of millions of Nigerians on the streets to defend our democratic project”, he reasoned. The NLC, has also called on trade unions who have enlisted for “this anti-people project”, as well as those that are being enticed to join the illegal project, to urgently retrace their steps as the NLCwould not allow the ranks of the working people to be split.

He said: “The NLC advises the trade unionists who have enlisted for this anti- people project, and those being enticed to join them, to retrace their steps as the congress will not allow the ranks of the working people to be split. The NLC and its allies put the working people on the alert for a struggle to stop this move”.

The NLC also called on President Jonathan to stop his officials who are engaged in renewed campaigns to further increase the price of fuel under the guise of a nebulous deregulation policy, which it stated that the House of Representatives had exposed as being fraudulent.

The Congress noted that the continuous waste of public fund on media campaigns, the enticement of youths and so-called Town Hall meetings was a criminal enterprise, and such fund must be put to better public use. The Labour house stated that the Presidency should see the January 9 to 16, 2012 strikes, mass rallies and street protests as a referendum by the people against a ruinous policy, and not a defeat for which the administration seeks a revenge.

“With the serious security challenges in the country, the heating up of the polity by politicians and rising poverty in the land, the NLC calls on President Jonathan to call the agents of his government to order on the twin issues of trying to break up the NLC by fiat and increasing fuel prIce. These are unnecessary battles which the government cannot win”, the Congress stressed.

“These hawks in government who see the NLC as being too powerful and capable of checkmating undemocratic and unpatriotic moves by the political class, have come to the conclussion that the best way out is to engineer internal ‘disagreements’ in the NLC, and hiding under this guise, to register a new labour centre which they hope will support anti-people policies and cause distractions in the Labour Movement. These government agents have even fixed July 2012 as the registration date of their proposed new labour centre.

The INEC said: “With the serious security challenges in the country, the heating up of the polity by politicians and rising poverty in the land, the NLC calls on President Jonathan to call the agents of his government to order on the twin issues of trying to break up the NLC by fiat and increasing fuel prIce. These are unnecessary battles which the government cannot win”. The statement added.

Few days ago, Peter of the Psquare music group hinted the possibility of starring in a new movie with legendary producer, Kunle Afolayan, news reaching me also highlights very similar trend for music star 9ice.

Popular Nigerian singer, Abolore Alexandra Adigun Akande otherwise known as 9ice has tried his luck with make-believe profession.

The Gbamugbamu crooner, as we learnt, is presently on a movie set of Laide Bakare's latest film titled 'Jekere' meaning 'Tumour'.

Jejere is about the story of a woman who has eight female children but whose husband, against her obvious fast deteriorating health, insists she must give him a male child or be ready to forfeit her marriage.

The end is as touching and communicative based on aged black African traditions.

Jejere also deals with the insecurity issue affecting the nation, corruption, mass unemployment, robbery and kidnapping and menace of bad leadership, while it proffers the way forward.

The concluding parts of the movie is expected to be shot in Lagos. It would be released by Sim Line International (formerly Front Row Productions) owned by Laide Bakare.
